Kompilace ssh : ERROR : gcc not works

pokousel jsem se nainstalovat ssh-1.2.21 ( stazeno z
ftp://ftp.kolej.mff.cuni.cz/pub/unix/ssh/1.2.21/ssh-1.2.21.tar.gz )

Pri pokusu o instalaci
>./configure
mi oznamil:
 
loading cache ./config.cache

checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler (gcc  ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler
cannot create executables.

Co to znamena a co se s tim da delat ?
Pouzivam RH 5.0 2.0.32, gcc-2.7.2.3-8, libc-5.3.12-24, vse instalovane z
RPM.
