Dobry den,

mozna vas toto zaujme: Motif je (castecne) OpenSource. Snad
to nekoho potesi...

Linux, Solaris, AIX, HPUX, Irix...

Zdravi
Lada Dobias

In case you have not heard, The Open Group has released the source code to
Motif 2.1.30 to the open source community under a "Public License". Under
this Public License, anybody can compile, distribute, and use Motif, for
commercial and noncommercial use without paying royalties as long as they
are using it on an "open source operating systems" (e.g., Linux, FreeBSD,
etc.) This "open" version of Motif is called "Open Motif".

ICS has ported Open Motif to all the popular Linux distributions (Red Hat,
SuSE, TurboLinux, Slackware, Stormix, Corel, Mandrake, LinuxPPC, etc.) and
also supports Linux on Intel, Alpha, Sparc, and PPC (yes, Motif is running
on an iMac!). In addition, we have ported Open Motif to FreeBSD 3.4 for
Intel processors.

You can download prebuilt binaries for these systems (and the sources too)
for FREE from the new MotifZone (www.motifzone.net). The minimum size
download for a development system is approximately 20mb. The runtime is
smaller and is generally approximately 3mb. If you have a slower internet
link, you can also buy a CD for $29.95 (USD) + S&H at the MotifZone too.
The CD includes the binaries for all the ports that we have done, the
source code, pdf versions of the official Motif 2.1.30 manuals, and 30 days
email installation support.

To support this announcement, the MotifZone has been overhauled. In
addition to continuing to provide the best source of links and reference
materials anywhere for Motif and X, the MotifZone now has the additional
objective of being the center for ongoing open source development of Motif.
Built using Source Forge technology, we foresee a number of open source
projects being hosted at the MotifZone over the next several years. The
first such project is being initiated by ICS: we're adding support for GTK+
and QT themes to Motif applications. This will help existing Motif
applications to blend in with the rest of a user's desktop on Linux by
adopting colors, fonts, styles, etc. chosen by the end user. Best of all,
there will be no changes required to the application!

I hope that you agree that this is an exciting event. Please visit the
MotifZone (www.motifzone.net), download the version of Motif (and source
code if you want) for free, and return often to see how the open source
community is progressing on enhancing Motif. Make sure you also visit the
"Open Help Forums" and read about what other people are doing and the
problems they are working on.

Cheers,

Chris
