For a UTF-8 mutt you must have:

    * A UTF-8 xterm (e.g. xterm -u8)
    * Mutt's charset variable set to UTF-8 (i.e. set charset=utf-8)
    * A UTF-8 locale. If you're using libutf8, that means you must have
      UTF-8 mentioned in the first of the following environment variables
      that is defined: LC_ALL, LC_CTYPE, LANG
