ICS' BX PRO, LEADING UNIX GUI BUILDER, DEBUTS ON RED HAT LINUX
1,000 Free Licenses to be Given Away for Open Source Development
CAMBRIDGE, MA, April 5, 1999 -- Integrated Computer Solutions, Inc.
(ICS), leading supplier of user interface development tools for UNIX,
today announced that its flagship product, Builder Xcessory (BX
PRO(tm)), is now available for Red Hat Linux. ICS also announced that it
would give away 1,000 free licenses for open source development over the
next 10 weeks to visitors of its website. BX PRO is the GUI builder
preferred by UNIX software developers because its WYSIWYG environment
simplifies and speeds the creation of user interfaces.
BX PRO is used by corporate developers to create custom, mission
critical applications that are not available "off-the-shelf." When a
Boeing airplane flies, a financial transaction is performed on Wall
Street, a subway train of the Boston MBTA is switched onto the right
track, a network communication problem is diagnosed and bypassed by US
West, a family is entertained by the latest animated movie from Walt
Disney, a US defense system built by Lockheed is tested in a drill or
real combat, or a spacecraft is launched into space by NASA, an ICS
product was probably used in the creation of the custom software that
made it possible.
Peter Winston, ICS president, said, "Based on the momentum we see among
our customers, Linux will become the software development workstation of
choice for corporate developers building custom, mission critical
applications and will eventually replace other UNIX implementations and
Windows NT. The combination of BX PRO with the open source software
development tools available on Linux makes a productive software
development environment that is also very economical."
Bob Young, CEO of Red Hat
"The availability of professional development tools on Linux, like ICS'
Builder Xcessory, a leading GUI builder for UNIX workstations, is a
continued indication of the momentum of Linux's adoption in mission
critical development environments," said Bob Young, CEO of Red Hat.
"We're pleased that Red Hat's openness, reliability, and support options
helped ICS choose Red Hat as their Linux platform of choice."
"In choosing the first platform for our Linux product, Red Hat was the
obvious choice," said ICS' Winston. "Red Hat's well deserved reputation
for high quality, ease of installation and support is increasingly
making it the platform of choice for many of our customers that are
involved in custom software development for mission critical
applications. Our customers will not risk their applications on software
that lacks a quality support organization."
About BX PRO
ICS has ported the latest BX PRO release, V5.0.5, to Red Hat V5.1. BX
PRO 5.0 consists of Builder Xcessory(tm), the industry's most advanced
graphical user interface builder for Motif; ViewKit(tm), a flexible and
mature C++ reuse framework that can be tailored to accommodate the
specific needs of individual businesses; and EnhancementPak(tm), a
library of 34 reusable components including business graphs and
sophisticated user interface controls. More detailed product information
is available under the Products section of the ICS home page at
http://www.ics.com.
In addition to Red Hat Linux, ICS licenses BX PRO on popular UNIX
workstations from Sun, HP, IBM, DEC and SGI. Support for other
distributions of Linux are planned for Q2/1999. Applications built with
BX PRO 5.0 can also be deployed to the Web or Windows NT with optional
add-on products offered by ICS.
Pricing and Availability
BX PRO on Linux is available immediately. ICS will give away 100
Personal Use licenses to BX PRO every week for the next 10 weeks to
developers registering at the special ICS Linux website
(http://linux.ics.com). Free 30-day evaluations are available for
download at this website.
Personal Use licenses are available to developers of open source
software for $250/license when ordered online at http://store.ics.com. A
General Use license for BX PRO on the Linux operating system, which
includes technical support, is available to corporations at $4,500/user
in North America. Prices vary elsewhere in the world.
