Wherever one looks in today’s language industry, tools based on artificial intelligence are transforming workflows, reshaping communicative practices, and shifting power relations. These developments raise fundamental questions of responsibility: Who decides what AI is allowed to do, and who bears the consequences? Who benefits from these technologies, and who is exposed to their risks or disadvantages?

The contributions gathered in this volume address these questions from ethical, cultural, political, and theoretical perspectives. Rather than focusing exclusively on technical performance, the book foregrounds the human dimensions of automation in translation and language work. It examines how AI challenges established understandings of creativity, agency, and responsibility, and how these notions must be rethought in an increasingly automated linguistic environment.
