I have a machine that was updated from f16/tl2011 to f17. I'm now trying
to fix it to sync with tl2012.

It's a full install of tl2012 and there's lots of broken deps on update
(packages which were in tl2011 and are gone from 2012, I guess).

I know I can manually find each error, e.g.:

Error: Package: texlive-cookybooky-2011-8.1.0.svn16216.noarch (@texlive/16)
           Requires: texlive-base = 2011
           Removing: texlive-base-2011-5.20120115_r25109.fc16.noarch
(@texlive/16)
               texlive-base = 2011-5.20120115_r25109.fc16
           Obsoleted By: 1:texlive-base-2012-1.20120716_r.fc17.noarch
(texlive)
               texlive-base = 1:2012-1.20120716_r.fc17
           Updated By: 1:texlive-base-2012-1.20120716_r.fc17.noarch
(texlive)
               texlive-base = 1:2012-1.20120716_r.fc17

And remove the offending package. I thought I'd seen posted to this list
an automated way to fix this stuff?
