Help! New to Linux!

I am new to Linux!  I decided to try something new!  Until I get a book, I
need some help!  I need to figure out how to run executables!  Also, I have
RedHat Linux Ver. 4.0 and need to know how to start XWin from.  I do not
know what the file name is to start it and where to find it.  I also need
to know how to start it!  Thank-You!
