Modemy Supra 56k a Linux

Dobrý večer,

zeptal jsem se firmy Diamond, zda je SupraExpress 56i PRO
(tj. interní) tzv. Winmodem a zda je použitelný pod Linuxem.

Odpověď na obě otázky je negativní (viz níže). Pro Linux se
doporučují modemy 56e (externí) nebo starší 336i (interní)...

Thank you for contacting Diamond Technical Support.

The SupraExpress PRO modem is definitely NOT a WinModem.  The term
WinModem is a registered trademark of another modem manufacturer, and to
refer to the SupraExpress PRO as a Winmodem is wrong.  The SupraExpress
modem is controllerless, meaning that some tasks are handled by
software.  Data aquisition, digital signal processing, and the digital
to analog converter remain features on the card itself.  My
understanding of Winmodems is that almost all features are controlled by
software, including the digital signal processor and a digital to analog
converter.

The controllerless nature of this modem means that you need to have
appropriate drivers to run it, and there are not, and probably never
will be drivers for Linux.

Our older SupraExpress internal modems are hardware based, and would be
your best bet if you want to run them under Linux.

As fars as the PRO modems go, the only controller-based modem is the
external.
