What about a horizontal mode?

     I agree a horizontal mode would be nice. But it would be extremely difficult to add because the 
GKrellM architecture is designed so that each monitor can accomodate itself to the same width as 
every other monitor. That is not realizable for vertical height so some monitors would still need to 
be stacked vertically within a horizontal layout. This plus some other problems would make a 
horizontal mode not a feature but instead an extensive redesign and recoding which I can see getting 
very ugly. However, while GKrellM is what it is, a vertical stack of system monitors, there is a way 
to somewhat "horizontalize" your monitors if you don't mind running two or more different GKrellMs. 
Just pick different config names for the runs and then configure each to show only the monitors you 
want in that column. Something like:
         gkrellm -c stack1
         gkrellm -c stack2
