Problem Description 

The customer is unable to install Red Hat Linux on the ML330G2 ATA RAID model server.

Symptoms 

The Red Hat installer program shows individual hard drives in the disk partitioning program (either Disk Druid or fdisk) when prompting for the partition structure of the RAID Array.

Cause 

The RAID capabilities of the ATA RAID controller are provided by the operating system driver.  Without the correct driver, the drives will be listed as individual IDE hard drives.  

Resolution/Workaround 

Have the customer download the correct driver for the operating system.  The customer can download the correct driver for their system from the following locations:

Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1
HP's website at the following URL:  http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/15990.html
Note:
1.  The driver is listed as one for the ML310.  It is the same for the ML330 G2 ATA RAID model server.
2.  The driver is provided in the form of an image the customer will need to use during the installation of the operating system.  After uncompressing and extracting the file, the customer will need to create the driver update diskette.  Instructions for creating the driver update diskette are included at the URL listed above.

Note:

NOTE:  YOU WILL SEE TWO DRIVERS LOADING WHEN USING THE DRIVER UPDATE DISKETTE:  sd AND megaide.  IF BOTH DRIVERS DO NOT LOAD (ONLY sd LOADS), THEN THE DRIVER IS NOT THE CORRECT ONE FOR THE OPERATING SYSTEM AND THE SYSTEM WILL NOT HAVE RAID FUNCTIONALITY.  HAVE THE CUSTOMER DOWNLOAD THE CORRECT DRIVER AND RERUN THE INSTALLATION OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM.
